Overview
Slate is a generalist software agent built by Random Labs for swarm orchestration. It runs in your terminal and handles multi-step engineering work that would normally require careful handoffs between multiple agent sessions.
Unlike traditional coding agents that treat each prompt as a fresh start, Slate maintains task context across exploration, implementation, builds, test failures, and follow-up edits. It can split independent work into parallel threads, then consolidate results back into the main session while managing context deliberately to avoid losing sight of the original goal.
The tool is currently in open beta and can be installed as an npm package to work directly with your existing codebase.
