Overview

uv is a single tool that replaces pip, pip-tools, pipx, poetry, pyenv, twine, virtualenv, and more. Written in Rust, it delivers 10-100x faster performance than pip while providing comprehensive project management with universal lockfiles, script execution with inline dependencies, Python version management, and tool installation capabilities.

The tool supports both simple workflows—like running standalone scripts with dependency metadata—and complex scenarios including Cargo-style workspaces, platform-independent resolutions, and reproducible builds. It offers a pip-compatible interface for familiar workflows with a performance boost, plus disk-space efficiency through global dependency caching.
